About Dr. Lee
Dr. David Lee was raised in the South Bay of Southern California. After graduating from Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, he completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard University. His senior thesis work in cancer cell biology fueled his interest in pursuing a career in medicine. Dr. Lee then attended medical school at the University of Michigan, and discovered a passion for the field of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He returned home to complete his internship and residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. During this time he became drawn to the complexities of the foot and ankle, especially its critical role in the biomechanics of everyday walking and high-performance athletics, and every activity between. After completing his final year of training as a chief resident, Dr. Lee spent an additional year of fellowship training and research in the subspecialty of Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgery at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
Dr. Lee specializes in the full spectrum of foot and ankle procedures, including minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery; foot and ankle trauma; and complex reconstructions such as tendon transfers, osteotomies, fusions, and total ankle replacement. He approaches each patient's unique problem with an understanding that “movement is life”, and the goal is to get back to moving, and living, as fully and quickly as possible. Dr. Lee firmly believes in discussing the relative risks and benefits of different treatment options with each individual patient, and many foot and ankle conditions can be managed effectively with non-surgical treatments.
Dr. Lee practices in Long Beach with the Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group, and is on staff at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and the Surgical Center of Long Beach. He is also on part-time faculty at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he teaches residents and continues clinical research. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), and an active member of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, music, snowboarding, and traveling.
