Peter R. Kurzweil, MD

Retired as of 2025

Internationally renowned for his expertise in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine, Peter R. Kurzweil, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon providing the highest quality care at Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group in Long Beach, California.

Dr. Kurzweil attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he graduated with summa cum laude honors. After completing his undergraduate education, Dr. Kurzweil attended the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. He then completed an orthopaedic residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.

After completing the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine in Long Beach, Dr. Kurzweil joined Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group. As a former athlete, Dr. Kurzweil takes a compassionate approach to treating patients with athletic injuries, emphasizing patient education. He also specializes in knee and shoulder injuries.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Kurzweil has served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center as well as team physician for Long Beach State University. He is also a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review.

When he’s not busy in the field of orthopaedic medicine, Dr. Kurzweil spends much of his time on the tennis court. He is also an avid skier and likes to stay active in the gym.

Philip S. Yuan, MD

Philip S. Yuan, MD, is a fellowship-trained spine surgeon with experience treating a wide range of spinal disorders. As a member of Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group in Long Beach, California, Dr. Yuan is a leading provider of high-quality orthopaedic care.  

Dr. Yuan attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in biochemistry. Dr. Yuan then went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School. After spending most of his life on the east coast, Dr. Yuan moved to the west coast to pursue a general surgery internship at the University of California San Diego where he also completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He also completed the prestigious spine surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.   

As the resident spinal surgery specialist at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Yuan opts for nonsurgical treatment options and is well trained in minimally invasive techniques. He’s also a participant of the CASCADE Clinical Research Study which explores potential treatment advances for low back pain caused by degenerative changes of a spinal disc.   

Outside the office, Dr. Yuan and his wife have settled in quite nicely to their life in southern California. In his free time, Dr. Yuan enjoys traveling, playing tennis, basketball, and golf, and spending time with his wife and sons. As a member of Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group, he is committed to bringing compassionate orthopaedic care to the Long Beach community.

Albert M. Tsai, MD

Albert Mu-Hong Tsai, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. As a key member of Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group in Long Beach, California, Dr. Tsai is committed to providing the Long Beach community with the best in orthopaedic care.

Dr. Tsai attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s in biochemistry. After completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Tsai attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia where he earned his Doctor of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Tsai began his career at the University of California in San Diego where he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery. He then went on to receive additional training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the University of California in Los Angeles.

Dr. Tsai maintains interest in the latest medical advances as a member of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons where he serves as a diplomate. In addition to Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group, Dr. Tsai is affiliated with the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Surgery Center of Long Beach, and Miller Children’s Hospital.

Shahryar Ahmadi, MD, FRCSC

Shahryar Ahmadi, MD, FRCSC, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialty training in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has extensive experience in arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, joint reconstruction, and repairing physical trauma. With about 300 shoulder arthroplasties and 30 elbow arthroplasties performed each year, Dr. Ahmadi is one the most experienced surgeons in this field.

Dr. Ahmadi received his medical degree at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He completed his residency at the University of Toronto and subsequently received training by world-renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons during his fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Ahmadi then pursued an academic position as director of shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Arkansas for over ten years.

Dr. Ahmadi regularly performs exceedingly involved shoulder and elbow surgeries, including complex revision surgeries. He regularly receives referrals from other orthopedic surgeons throughout the state. Dr. Ahmadi is a member of several educational committees and has years of experience teaching residents, fellows, and orthopedic surgeons. He is also a consultant for several orthopedic companies.

An expert in his field, Dr. Ahmadi has published numerous papers and is a reviewer for several medical journals. He is an expert consultant for patients throughout the world, holds several patents, and has invented a novel approach for elbow arthroplasty.

Jesse J. Caballero, MD

Dr. Caballero is a dedicated and skilled Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, committed to providing exceptional care and innovative treatment solutions for patients with spine-related conditions. With a solid foundation in both basic sciences and clinical practice, Dr. Caballero brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise. He has authored several orthopaedic and spine related journal articles and textbook chapters.

Dr. Caballero earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the University of Arizona, where he developed a strong understanding of the complex biological systems underpinning human health. This foundation paved the way for his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree.
Following medical school, Dr. Caballero pursued a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. Here, he honed his skills in diagnosing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, with a focus on surgical precision and patient-centered care.

To further specialize in spine care, Dr. Caballero completed a prestigious Spine Fellowship at Hoag Orthopaedic Institute in California, a leading institution known for its advanced techniques and cutting-edge research in spinal surgery. During this fellowship, he gained advanced training in the newest minimally invasive and complex spine surgical techniques, enhancing his ability to address a variety of spine conditions effectively.

Dr. Caballero is passionate about improving patient outcomes through a combination of non-operative solutions, innovative surgical techniques, and compassionate care. Aziz Rasooli, D.P.M

Dr. Rasooli is a distinguished, ABFAS board-certified and fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon with a strong foundation in both clinical expertise and academic excellence. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Genetics from the University of California, Davis, and subsequently obtained his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine with honors from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Rasooli completed a rigorous three-year surgical residency at the Veterans Affairs/Stanford Healthcare program in Palo Alto, California, where he trained at Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, and Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR)—one of the most prestigious orthopedic groups in the San Francisco Bay Area. To further refine his expertise, he pursued an ACFAS-recognized fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at Sutter Health–Palo Alto Medical Foundation, specializing in trauma, complex reconstructive surgery, and total ankle joint replacement.

Dedicated to global health initiatives, Dr. Rasooli actively participates in medical missions and has traveled to Vietnam, Mexico and South Africa where he has performed advanced foot and ankle deformity corrections.

Dr. Rasooli’s practice is deeply committed to restoring his patients to their pre-injury functional state through cutting-edge, evidence-based medical and surgical techniques. His clinical interests include complex fracture management, total ankle replacement, ankle arthroscopy, minimally invasive procedures, revisional foot and ankle surgery, and regenerative sports medicine.

Anthony Gauthier, PA-C, ATC

Certified Physician Assistant

Anthony assists Dr. Warden in the operating room and in the office. He received his undergraduate degree in kinesiology and athletic training from LB State and went to PA school at Western University of Health Sciences. He also serves on the faculty of LB State as Adjunct Professor in the graduate sports medicine program. He is Board Certified by the NCCPA.

Theresa Arnold, MRI

Technologist

Theresa is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist with sixteen years of professional experience as an MRI Technologist and over twenty years of experience in Orthopedics. She graduated magna cum laude from Casa Loma College with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in MRI, accredited by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT). As a valued member of Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group, she is committed to providing patients with a safe and comfortable experience and excellent care during their MRI scans.
