Internationally renowned for his expertise in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine, Peter R. Kurzweil, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon providing the highest quality care at Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group in Long Beach, California.
Dr. Kurzweil attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he graduated with summa cum laude honors. After completing his undergraduate education, Dr. Kurzweil attended the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine. He then completed an orthopaedic residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.
After completing the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine in Long Beach, Dr. Kurzweil joined Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group. As a former athlete, Dr. Kurzweil takes a compassionate approach to treating patients with athletic injuries, emphasizing patient education. He also specializes in knee and shoulder injuries.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Kurzweil has served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center as well as team physician for Long Beach State University. He is also a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review.
When he’s not busy in the field of orthopaedic medicine, Dr. Kurzweil spends much of his time on the tennis court. He is also an avid skier and likes to stay active in the gym.

Dr. Yuan attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in biochemistry. Dr. Yuan then went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Michigan Medical School. After spending most of his life on the east coast, Dr. Yuan moved to the west coast to pursue a general surgery internship at the University of California San Diego where he also completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery. He also completed the prestigious spine surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University and the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As the resident spinal surgery specialist at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Yuan opts for nonsurgical treatment options and is well trained in minimally invasive techniques. He’s also a participant of the CASCADE Clinical Research Study which explores potential treatment advances for low back pain caused by degenerative changes of a spinal disc.
Outside the office, Dr. Yuan and his wife have settled in quite nicely to their life in southern California. In his free time, Dr. Yuan enjoys traveling, playing tennis, basketball, and golf, and spending time with his wife and sons. Shahryar Ahmadi, MD, FRCSC, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialty training in shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr. Ahmadi received his medical degree at the Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Dr. Rasooli is a distinguished, ABFAS board-certified and fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon with a strong foundation in both clinical expertise and academic excellence. He earned his undergraduate degree with honors in Genetics from the University of California, Davis, and subsequently obtained his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine with honors from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Rasooli completed a rigorous three-year surgical residency at the Veterans Affairs/Stanford Healthcare program in Palo Alto, California, where he trained at Stanford University, Kaiser Permanente, and Sports Orthopedic and Rehabilitation (SOAR)—one of the most prestigious orthopedic groups in the San Francisco Bay Area.
